I had so much fun planning this shower…finally a baby shower for my sister! Yay! I came across the “In Full Bloom” shower when I was looking for ideas and loved the idea of a French inspired theme…mostly because Anne’s friend, Melissa, lives in France and was helping me plan the shower. Perfect. We used lots of ideas from the In Full Bloom shower and then Melissa added her own “French” touches. I really wanted to have the shower in my backyard, but the crazy Kansas heat (especially this summer) crushed that idea. We thought that we might not have anyone show up if we planned it at 6am in order for the weather to be tolerable. And it would have probably still been too hot! ๐Ÿ™‚ In my dream world I would live somewhere where I could have outdoor parties anytime of year. No heat and no bugs. That would be awesome.

This is the front of the invitation.

We had a crepe bar set up in the kitchen and French music playing in the background.

Crepes and coffee were served when guests first arrived.

Melissa made the crepes just like she does in France. This is how you properly fold and serve them. You unfold them to add your toppings and then fold them back up to eat. Rolling them is an American thing. I never knew that!

The toppings were all written on the chalkboard: nutella, butter, sugar, powdered sugar, and jam.

We played the true/false game and a friend of Anne’s gave a little devotional and then we ate again! Melissa said it was very appropriate to eat a lot at a French party…so we did!

My mom made most of the food. I was so thankful for that. She made these delicious baquette sandwiches and wrapped them with parchment paper and washi tape. They tasted as good as they look…and they were cute too!

We also served pasta salad, chips and fruit.

The bunting around the table was borrowed from another pretty party.

Lots of sunflowers…they are my sister’s favorite.

Coconut creme and mocha chocolate cupcakes made by my “neighbor” Kerry. They were SO good. There were a few extras and I ate them all.

The favors were little ivy plants wrapped in burlap and tied with yarn. I loved having them by the door when you walked in.

Molly made the merci/thank you tags. Aren’t they so cute? She used a Silhouette machine to make them and now I seriously want one. Crafters envy for sure. Molly made all of the signs for the crepe bar and the food table too. Each sign was written in French and English (thanks to Melissa’s translations!).

My pretty pregnant sister is on the right with her sweet friends Molly (left) and Melissa (center).

After we ate Anne started opening her gifts. Oh, and that cuteย bรฉbรฉ bunting was made by Molly too!

We were packed in my living room…I seriously ran out of chairs! The more the merrier, right?

My niece Ellie helped open Anne’s gifts. She would model or hold up the baby item after Anne opened it. A little mama. She was so cute.

Anne, my mom, and my grandma. All excited for baby Chester to arrive…Chester is baby’s nickname. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anne and her mother-in-law. She is super excited because baby Chester is her FIRST grandchild!

It was such an honor to be able to host this shower for you Anne. I am blessed to have a sister like you and I can’t wait to see you as a mama. You will be holding your little one soon!

Twenty-three days {or less} until I am an auntie again. Hooray!

I thought I’d share this fun and simple game we played at my sister’s baby shower. It was a French “bebe” shower, so we incorporated the French theme into our game too. I hosted the shower along with two of my sister’s sweet friends. I was so thankful for them! One of her friends actually lives in France…hence the French theme. It was so great to have her French input.

Vrai/Faux Game

For the game, each guest was given a card that read vrai (true) on one side and faux (false) on the opposite side. As we were cutting out the cards (the night before the shower) we were wishing we had thought to buy sticks to glue to them. But we didn’t think of that…and we didn’t have enough time to go get some, so the guests just held up the card with their hand instead of by a stick. Next time I will add a stick!

Melissa (the friend from France) taught everyone how to say “true” and “false” in French and they practiced a few times. Then she read through facts about pregnancy and babies in France. Each guest had to decide if the fact was vrai (true) or faux (false) and hold up their card to show their answer. The guest with the most correct answers won. Here are a few of the facts that were read:

In France, after giving birth, you stay in the hospital a minimum of 3-4 days for a non-complications delivery. (TRUE)

In France, you get paid maternity leave and can stop working up to 3 months in advance. (TRUE)

In France, they do NOT promote demand feeding. (FALSE โ€“ they highly promote it.)

In France, it is very expensive to have a baby in a state hospital. (FALSE โ€“ free, and really inexpensive in a private hospital.)

ย Throwing a baby shower originated in France and thus a common practice before the baby arrives (FALSE โ€“ definitely an American tradition. In France, many people come to the hospital and sometimes bring gifts for the mom and baby.)

I didn’t think to take any pictures during the actual game. Bummer. But here we are after the shower holding up our true/false cards…you get the picture. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m not a huge game person and I think it is hard to find fun shower games, but this one was perfect! What are your favorite shower games? I might need some ideas for the next one!

Check back tomorrow to see the rest of the shower!

  • Jill - What a fun game! I’m not a big fan of games at baby showers either, and my sister-in-law knows that. So for my recent baby shower that she threw, she pre-painted square blocks in the colors of my nursery, and stamped the letters of the alphabet on them. Then, at the shower, each of the guests picked a block and wrote a message/verse/blessing for my baby on it. She finished the blocks off by adding stamps to any sides that were left blank. The blocks, along with a neat box she decorated to match the nursery as well, were part of my gift from her. I love the personal touch, and the guests had a lot of fun working on their blocks. Many of them chose the letter block that matched their name ๐Ÿ™‚ReplyCancel

  • Ginger - That is a cute game. I really dislike games at showers but my friends and I always do baby/wedding bingo. It is super easy and it keeps people involved while the presents are being openend since everyone is hoping they win. We also put together a gift bag full of $1ish items for people to pick from once they’ve got a bingo. We normally fill up the gift bag with $1 jewelry items from forever 21. Cute shower!ReplyCancel

Levi hit the two and a half point just before we went on our trip to Colorado. I had wanted to take some pictures of him while we were there but the the family-sickness-that-ruined-our-vacation struck. I had kind of forgotten about the whole picture thing until we were on a walk the other day and we came upon this big tree that had fallen down. Levi loved crawling all over it and I made a mental note to bring my camera the next time we went on a walk. A few days later we stopped at the tree again to take a few pictures of the big two and a half (give or take a few months) year old.

I really love this age. I mean, there are days where I want to pull my hair out when he goes “digging” in my bed after I just made it…or I feel like all I do is discipline him for wrestling his baby brother…or I wish he would stop talking for just five minutes. There are those days too. But mostly I just love spending my days being a mama to this spunky two and a half year old.

Dear Levi,

It is hard to even write down what I want to remember about you as a two and a half year old. There is so much. You say and do so many funny things. Here are just a few:

“It’s okay I play with your phone mommy?” – The answer is usually no.

“I just texting somebody.” – Lately you’ve been texting your Uncle Ben to pick up loads of cows for you.

I don’t think so. “I think so.” I don’t think so. “I think so.” – You like to argue. You say it in a sing-songy way with a giggle. ๐Ÿ™‚

“I love you all the way to China!” – You yell this to me as I walk down the hall leaving your room at night.

“I need some fresh milk.” or “I need some really cold milk.” – You love your milk.

“Nice hair, mommy.” – Usually it is when my hair is looking not so nice.

“Thank you for the good dinner mommy.” – Your sweet words almost make me love cooking. Almost.

“Put your hands up! Levi’s a big boy! Woot-woot!” – This is your chant after going potty. We’ve had lots of dance parties in the bathroom lately.

“Mom! I gotta go potty! Mom! I gotta go potty!” – Your latest stalling technique at bedtime. Nice try, buddy! ๐Ÿ™‚

“He doesn’t talk.” – Referring to your brother who will be lucky to ever get a word in with you around to speak for him.

You love to sing. You know every song on the radio and I’m amazed when I hear those songs coming out of your mouth. You know my favorite songs and you always tell me when they come on the radio. “It’s your song, mommy!” Right now we love singing 10,000 Reasons together. It is our favorite. I love hearing that little voice of yours singing songs of praise to Jesus! I am praying that you always have a song in your heart.

Jump! This is you being brave. You are pretty cautious. You have to try new things a few times before you get comfortable. You are definitely not a risk taker. I am okay with that. I am pretty sure your little brother is going to make me worry enough for both of you.

You love people and are always up for a party…just like your dad. You love when your friends or cousins come over to play and you love going to their houses too. ย You like to be on the go and know the names of all your favorites stores and restaurants. If we are home during the day I often hear, “What-do-ya wanna do now, mommy?”. You like to have a plan for your day…and you love to “help” me with whatever that plan may be.

If you had your way you would be on the farm with dad every moment of the day. You love spending time with him and you love the farm. You know the name of every piece of equipment and you know everything that goes on there. When you are home you usually spend lots of your time playing farm with your millions of tractors. You put me to shame with your “farming knowledge”.

ย Your favorite foods are…macaroni and cheese, cheese sticks, goldfish crackers, strawberries & blueberries, and M&M’s. And guess what? You were finally brave enough (you have a sensitive mouth!!) to try ice cream and popsicles. You are a fan.

Your favorite books are…Knuffle Bunny Tooย andย The Jesus Storybook Bible

Your favorite movies are…Thank You God for Colors and Shapes and Heroes of the Bible

You love picking out and giving gifts to people. I love giving gifts too so it has been so fun to have you share in my excitement. You even like to help me wrap them up! It is all about presentation, right buddy? ๐Ÿ™‚

When we go on walks you always ask if we can walk to Cora’s stone. You love going there and you always look for flowers to leave at your sissy’s stone. One time as we were loading up in the stroller and getting ready to leave I told you to say goodbye to Cora. You said, “Mommy, Cora’s not here. She in heaven!”. The Lord uses you so many times to give me gentle reminders and encourage my broken heart. I love that.

With a “big boy” hair cut and “big boy” pants (you are officially potty trained!) you really seem like a BIG boy. I am having a hard time adjusting to my baby turning into a little boy this summer! I am so thankful that you are my son, Levi. You bring so much joy to our house and I am thankful for these long summer days that we get to spend together. It is a privilege to be your mama. I love you all the way to China!

Love, Mama

Two and a half is such an age of wonder and discovery. Your comment about how he said Cora wasn’t there made my eyes fill with tears.
