AfterΒ Levi’s One Year Old in a Flash partyΒ I knew that I wanted to have the same theme for all future Mac kids’ first birthdays. (Original idea from here.) I love the focus of the party being on pictures, memories, and prayers for their future. First birthdays are a big thing to celebrate around here! So…here is the One Year Old in a Flash first birthday party…take two.

The photo collage was inspired by this one. I loved looking back through Griffin’s pictures over the past year. So many sweet memories. Now I need to get all of those pictures in a baby book!

We had a gourmet hotdog bar inspired by this party. I ordered these fun trays for the hotdogs and they never came. I was so confused why they didn’t arrive on time and then we opened one of Griffin’s presents that was also from Amazon and realized they were in the same box. Bummer! So we didn’t get to use the trays for the party. Now I need to come up with another creative use for them…I have tons! πŸ™‚

I made signs for all the different kinds of hotdogs and their toppings. (Thanks for the idea Lesley!) They kept blowing away on the evening of the party (along with everything else), so I don’t know how helpful they were…if only Kansas wasn’t so windy! Have you ever tried cream cheese and grilled onions on your hotdog? So good. πŸ™‚

Drinks & stripey straws.

The bunting was inspired by Heather…of course! She is the queen of parties! (You need to check out her son’s birthday party…so cute!)

Photo props from say hello and chalkboard frames made by my brother. Unfortunately it got dark before anyone started using them, so no good pictures!

The 1 banner was inspired by Heather too. I should have just ordered a banner from her shop because they are much cuter, but I didn’t think of it in time for her to ship one to me. I got the idea for the pictures on the tree on Pinterest but couldn’t find the link. They are all instagram pictures that I ordered from postal pix.

Griffin and his great grandparents. I wish I would have thought to take a picture of Griffin with all the guests to put in the time capsule. There are just too many things to do on party day and I always forget something!

The sweet birthday boy. He was acting so funny on the night of his party. He was being very bashful and serious…very unlike him. We could hardly get him to look at the camera.

Lots of little friends and cousins.

Lots of hugs for Griffin and lots of hotdogs consumed.

It was almost dark by cupcake and present time. Big brother is always close by to help.

My friend Julie made Griffin an awesome smash cake but it was so dark by the time we ate cake that I decided to save it for our family pictures and just let Griffin have a cupcake. So glad I did.

He thought the cupcake was great and this way he got two days of cake eating!

The party favors were animal noses. Simple and cheap. And the kids loved them…but again it was dark by the time we handed them out, so no pictures.

Levi was helping me package them and tried a few on. He thought they were pretty awesome…and he thought he was pretty funny.

And while I was taking the pictures he ran into the other room and got his camera. He was taking pictures too. Maybe he will have his own blog someday?!

Β My favorite part of the One Year Old in a Flash theme is the time capsule. I love the idea of my kids being able to open all these notes (many including verses and prayers that people are praying for them) when they are 18. So special. I included a note explaining the time capsule and a paper with Griffin’s name to write the note on. I filled the time capsule with all the notes, birthday cards, invitation and a few things from the party.
And just like that…Griffin was one year old in a flash.
Happy birthday, Griffin! You are an awesome one year old!

And just like that Griffin’s monthly pictures are done. That is probably a very good thing because trying to keep him in one place for more than two seconds is pretty much impossible. And the fact that I was fast enough to get any pictures of him lying on the quilt was a miracle. It was definitely time to be done.

Dear Griffin,

A year ago I was holding you in my arms marveling at the fact that I had two boys and how much you looked like your sissy. A sweet gift from the Lord. We were just getting to know each other. The past year has been difficult at times as you have been a hard little boy to figure out, but even on the hard days you have brought so much joy to our family. At first I thought you would be pure sweetness like your sister, but you are proving to have your very own personality (of course, we knew you would!). I think you would best be described as sweet, stubborn, silly, and brave.

You are sweet. Your moments of sweetness are like glimpses of your sister. It is so crazy how much you can remind me of her. You are a snuggler and I love that. You can snuggle with your mama anytime. And that sweet little smile of yours makes my day, everyday.

You are stubborn. You know what you want and you go after it. If you can’t get what you want you plant your face on the floor and wail. Drama. It is actually quite humorous now, but something we will have to work on.

You are silly. You love to tease people and play shy with strangers. You giggle the most at your brother’s crazy antics or when I catch you climbing up the stairs.

You are brave. You get into things and climb up things that your brother never even tried. You seem pretty fearless which can be a little frightening to your mama. I have a feeling you will be pulling your cautious brother along to try some of your stunts very soon.

I am praying that as you grow, these character traits that are already emerging would be character traits that you allow the Lord to use in your life for His glory. He has big plans for you, baby boy!

A few other things that have happened this month:

-Your official first word was “moo”. You love your cows. You say “Mmm” when eating something tasty, it sounds like you say “hi” when you wave, and we think you might have said “dada” a few days ago. You should really try to say “mama” soon. Most of the time you just yell to tell us what you want. You are always yelling.

-You are a climber. This month I have found you standing on a chair that you climbed onto, climbing up the stairs, climbing in the dishwasher, and climbing on the four wheeler. I always have to keep on eye on you.

-You love Levi’s little bike and ride it all over the house. It also was the cause of a big crash and cut on your forehead.

-You are finally sleeping through the night again. It only took you a year (read with sarcasm)!! You might actually turn into a good little sleeper.

-You are taking one nap in the afternoon most days. Goodbye morning nap.

-You have four teeth on top and three on bottom…and working on more! Slobbering all the time.

-You are the messiest eater ever. Even with a bib on you somehow manage to completely trash your cloths and the floor after a meal. I am getting to be really good at sweeping the floor.

-This month your farmer wave turned into a little beauty pagent wave. You turn your hand back and forth and open and close it. So cute.

-You love to watch a movie with Levi after nap. You clap when the Veggie Tales song come on. And you have to have a snack and milk just like him.

-You love anything with wheels. You drive cars and tractors all over the house when you play.

-You love to be outside. You crawl all around the yard trying to keep up with your brother. You are getting much better about not putting sand and rocks in your mouth. And you always cry when it is time to go in. Always.

-You are starting to love your daddy and the farm as much as your brother. You get so excited when you see your daddy’s truck and love to go for rides up and down the driveway. You love to take four wheeler and tractor rides and your brother is trying to learn how to share his “farm time” with you. So hard. And the best part of the farm is seeing the cows. I think I already said it…but you really love cows.

Griffin, I am so thankful for the past year God has entrusted you to us. It is a joy to be your mama and I can’t wait to see how you grow in the year to come…just don’t grow too fast!

Love you, buddy!

Love, Mama

Remember I told you that we were having our family pictures taken this week? Well, Gina is amazing and they are already done! I LOVE them. Gina was the first photographer I ever hired to take our family pictures four years ago. She came out to our house and took our pictures when Cora was two months old. I am so, so thankful for those pictures. It was fun to see Gina again and she did such a good job capturing this new crazy stage of our family. Levi loved Gina and was pretty much bossing her around the entire time. I’m pretty sure he thought he was in charge of the photo shoot. Griffin even got to dive into his birthday cake at the end of the session. Sheesh! That kid knows how to make a mess. He wasn’t as interested in eating the cake as he was in smashing it. You can check out the rest of the pictures here. And leave Gina a comment while you are there telling her how great she is! Thanks, Gina. We really love them!

I finally caved and the day came for baby brother’s first haircut. Why is it so hard to say goodbye to those baby curls? I wasn’t sure how the whole haircut thing would go down with an almost one year old…it turned out to be quite the ordeal. Griffin started in his highchair with a popsicle to distract him. He loves his popsicles.

But as soon as my mom pulled out the scissors and started cutting, he was a wreck. Just imagine lots of screaming and thrashing around…not good haircutting conditions. Especially if you want to keep your ears. πŸ™‚

So we moved outside for more distractions and I held Griffin instead.

All was well in the world again and the haircut proceeded.

He finished his popsicle so we had to run in and get him another one before he remembered that he was getting a haircut.

By this time, I was covered in hair and my arms were about to fall off so we sat Griffin on the four wheeler…popsicle number two in hand.

He made sure to let my mom when he didn’t like what was going on.

There was some serious drama going on.

But then we reminded him about his popsicle and he held still for a few more seconds.

All of a sudden he started looking like such a big boy.

Look at that cute, spiky, little boy hair!

And then he decided he was done. Haircut over. Good thing Grammy was pretty much done too.

We tried getting an “after” picture but he had had enough.

Β We both survived Griffin’s first haircut. And it turns out he looks pretty cute with his big boy hair. Thanks for helping, mom! I’m sure Griffin will forget the trauma you put him through someday. πŸ™‚

Master E, aged nearly 6, put us through hysterics and having to be held down for his first F-O-U-R (4) Y-E-A-R-S of haircuts. And he has hair like mine that grows almost whilst you watch it so that happened at least every 6 weeks. Thankfully our hairdresser LOVES our family but who knows why she does as Master E did a very good job scaring her other customers away!!

We are still here. Last week just ended up being a little crazy. I have so many things I wanted to tell you about but I never could find time to sit down at the computer. So…I had to take a little unplanned blog break. But I’m back now. And somehow I have to catch you up on what has been happening around here. For now…a quick little rundown will have to do…

I caved and Griffin got his first haircut. It was quite the ordeal. But hopefully he won’t be confused for a girl anymore.

My baby turned one! We started the day off with sprinkle pancakes for breakfast. He was a fan.

We had two birthday parties over the weekend. Griffin’s first birthday and my little brother’s birthday too!

My baby brother got engaged!! Congrats Owen and Morgan! So excited for you!

Joel and I went to the Hillsong Live concert. So good. There is just something awesome about singing praise to Jesus alongside so many people.

Family pictures were tonight. I can’t wait to see them. I’m sure the boys will look adorable…I just hope I do too! πŸ™‚

And my sister is going to have her baby any day now…at least she hopes it is any day. Can’t wait!!

I told you we’ve been busy!

More details to come soon…

This is totally unrelated to last week, but too good not to share. My brother-in-law sent me this YouTube video today. Have you heard this song?

God you are my God. Glorious. Victorious.

I want to start this week with His praise on my heart. How about you?
