Nice title, right? I couldn’t think of a better one…because…well, this post is about crafting and throw up. ๐Ÿ™‚

I got to spend the weekend with Rachel, Kimberly, Megan and the sweet girl’s who were attending Craft Weekend. I helped thread sewing machines, fixed sewing machines, led a craft, went to the barn and found some treasures, met some sweet new friends, ate Kimberly’s delicious food, stayed up way too late for me, and even squeezed in some crafting of my own. It was a great weekend.

I didn’t take very many pictures so you will have to just read Megan’s blog whenever she posts the Craft Weekend pictures. Here are the girl’s listening to the all the craft directions. These girls knew how to craft!

And here are a few of my Instagram pics. There is just something about piles of craft supplies that just makes you smile.

I was feeling a little yucky at Craft Weekend…but no, I did not throw up. Thank goodness. Griffin had been a little under the weather already and then over the weekend Levi got the flu. He threw up A LOT. I’ll spare you the details. Let’s just say his dad deserves an award for holding down the fort under those conditions while I was gone. I kept texting and saying that I really would come home if he needed me, but he reassured me that he had everything under control. Super dad for sure.

We thought Levi was getting better Sunday but he threw up again that night. Thankfully there has been no throw up since. He was still feeling pretty yucky yesterday, so he spent a lot of the day on the couch. At one point I looked over and he was asleep. You know two year olds are sick when they fall asleep on the couch, right? I don’t think that has ever happened!

He looked so cute so I had to take advantage of the rare moment and take a few pictures.

There is just something about a sleeping two year old in rainbow dino jammies.

Joel and I were laughing about how Levi is just like his daddy when he is sick…milking it for all it is worth. Joel may be super daddy but he does not get any awards when he is a sick daddy. Sorry honey, but you know it is true! ๐Ÿ™‚

While Levi was asleep, Griffin and I snuck outside to swing. The weather the past two days has been gorgeous. It has been a total bummer that the boys have been sick and we have been stuck inside. We’ve been sneaking out as much as we can when they are feeling up to it.

We can’t figure out what color Griffin’s eyes are. I am still calling them blue even though they are definitely not a true blue. They have a little brown speck in them…but not totally brown. I just don’t know what color they are??

A little blurry, but he was cracking me up with his faces.

I left the weekend feeling thankful. Thankful for a husband who lets me get away even when he is left to take care of sick kids. Thankful for new friends. Thankful for the outlet that crafting is…and that God made us to create. Thankful that I got to come home to my boys…throw up and all (although I missed most of the throw up). Thankful that I am a mama who is needed at home even though we’ve been stuck inside on these gorgeous days. Just thankful. Maybe I should have called this post ‘thankful’ instead of ‘crafting & throw up’. But that wouldn’t have peaked your curiousity as much, would it have? ๐Ÿ™‚

No matter what this week looks like for you, I hope you can look around and find things to be thankful for too.

  • alyssa - his eyes are hazel, I’m guessing. That is what you call any eye color that isn’t specific! I actually just recently found out my eyes were technically hazel. I’ve been calling them the color of the light m&m’s for all my life!

sorry they had to be sick while you were gone. That is always a bummer and seems to be the way it goes! although, I would say, you could even be thankful for missing the throw up. I know I have cleaned up enough in my lifetime to deserve a time of missing it!
    Glad you had fun.ReplyCancel

  • Mary Ann - There is never a short supply of things for us to be thankful for. Here in Utah we’ve had a glorious Fall but the storms are starting so winter is just around the corner. I will be going to an overnight scrap-booking event next weekend. The great thing is that 3 of my sisters and 4 of my nieces will be there, too, and it is always wonderful to spend time with each other. Sorry Levi was so sick. My little grandson had a similar illness for about 5 days. He has his appetite back now and I’m so glad he’s feeling better too. Your craft time looks so fun and yes, you are lucky to have such a good husband and father to you sons.ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Lyndsey - I laughed out loud at this post because I just wrote a post yesterday asking people what color eyes MY son has! I keep calling them blue too, but everyone pretty much agreed they are a green/gray/hazel? Ha! So much for narrowing it down! I hope your clan (and you!) get to feeling better soon!ReplyCancel

  • Kimberlee Jost - I can identify with the title of this post more than you know.
    Boo.
    Stinky flu.
    Oh so yucky.
Hope the boys are feeling better and that you never ever get it for real.
Thanks for all your help this weekend…you blessed me.ReplyCancel

  • Sarah W. - So jealous you got to spend time at Craft weekend.
Hope your boys are starting to feel better.
And Griffin’s eyes look like McKenzie’s. I don’t know what color to call hers either. They also have a brown speck (which I say is her little part of Mama) I call them hazel, most of the time.ReplyCancel

  • Rachel - Those pictures of Levi sleeping in dino jammies are just too cute.
Just want to encourage Joel..speaking as a mom of two little ones, that was super great of him!ReplyCancel

  • Becca - I had to laugh when I pulled up your site, “Crafting and Throw-up”. Welcome to the Mom Club. Although I thought what exactly did she craft out of throw-up?ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Megg - I’d call his eyes hazel ๐Ÿ™‚ Mine used to be until I hit puberty and they turned blue? It was a little weird.

    Hope everyone’s feeling better soon!!ReplyCancel

  • Michelle from Oz - Craft Weekend…..Jealous. Hope all the sick bugs are out of your home soon!ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Rachel - It always amazes me how quickly stomach bugs travel the country. This bug seems to be hitting everywhere. All 6 of my kids were throwing up at the same time last week! One by one they fell like dominoes within a few hours of each other. Pure Craziness. Craft weekend looks like it was a lot of fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope everyone stays well.ReplyCancel

  • creole wisdom - It’s life! I’ve blogged about throw-up before. No fun! However, I must say your craft weekend looks lovely. I used pompoms in my Thanksgiving decor last year and loved what color and whmsy they added. Whatever you are doing well them, I’m sure it will be great!ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Ashley - I hope the boy’s are feeling better! I have to ask, where did you get the cute blanket that Levi is sleeping with?ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Leadia Jarvis - I wish I looked that angelic when I was sick! Both boys are absolutely darling. You were such a great help at craft weekend and stayed so focused even though you had drama back at home! Here’s to good health ๐Ÿ˜‰ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Jaime - Oh my…such adorable boys! It’s is so nice to go away for just a little bit because you come home with a new appreciation for each person and they for you too. What a blessed weekend. I wish we could do it all over again! (Without the throwing up :-))ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Allison - Can I just say that I LOVE the blanket Levi has on the couch? What a super-cute little boy blanket! Also, I agree that Griffin’s eyes are hazel. They look like my husband’s eyes and I am really hoping our son gets eyes like that instead of my boring brown ones! They’re so pretty.ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Jill - It was the best weekend, and I felt so blessed to have met you. I only wish your sister had been able to join us! Hoping Levi is back to running around outside again in no time!ReplyCancel

  • amanda - Levi looks precious! And tell Joel WAY TO GO!! What a trooper he was! And whatever color Griffin’s eyes are – they are so pretty!ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Allison - Awe, what a sweet hubby you have! He reminds me so much of my husband. I’m seriously jealous of your crafting weekend! That sounds like such a fun, relaxing get-away!ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Karina - Your boys are so gorgeous! Levi looks like a little Joel sleeping on the couch. And I’d call Griffin’s eyes hazel too.

I still think about you often, Jess…Anna is still wearing her Cora dress! She wears it to school, and now that it is getting cooler, she can put on a long-sleeved shirt and tights under it. She asks me all the time, “Can I wear my Cora dress today?” It is such a great design, it fits for a very long time! When she walks ahead of me on the path to school, I picture Cora in her place, or beside her…they are only one month apart in age. The reminder is poignant, sad and beautiful…I thought you’d like to know your daughter is still in the thoughts of people far away.

Hats off to Joel for handling the little men over a sick weekend! Obviously an awesome husband and father.ReplyCancel

    [Reply]

  • Mary - how awesome that you were able to go to craft weekend!
so sorry your boys were sick, but those pics of the sleeping beaut on the couch MIGHT just be worth it.
    SO precious!!!

  • Kim - Hope the boys are feeling better, it stinks when they are sick! Levi is so precious in the pics sleeping on the couch. He must of been feeling really yuky, poor thing! Throwing up is the worst!! Hoping they are much better!ReplyCancel

Your house has plenty of time to be clean. It happens when your babies are grown! Enjoy your silly, noisy, sweet boys and all the messes they make. First, I have to say happy birthday to my sweet sister, Anne. She is seriously the best sister! And she got the best birthday present ever this year…her sweet baby, Max. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Birthday, Anne!!

Okay, now a few links on this Monday…

1. You probably have already heard about this, but just in case…the sweet Lisa Leonard is going to have her own TV show called ‘Life by Design’. So awesome! It is about hope in the everyday. Love that. Make sure to check out the trailer if you haven’t already.

2. I posted a song a few weeks ago that I really liked. Here is another one:

Love the truth in this song. No matter what you are going through, even if God feels a million miles away…not for a moment will He forsake you. He is constant. He is only good. He is sovereign. I am so thankful that our God walks with us. I am wishing you could download The Song Sessions but I can only find these on the Vertical Church Band live CD?

3. The True Woman conference sessions are now available to listen to here. So if you are needing something to listen to while you wash dishes or fold the laundry (if you do that kind of thing?! :)) then check them out. I listened to the first Nancy Leigh Demoss session the other day (I was crafting…not doing laundry!) and it was so challenging. I can’t wait to work my way through the rest of them. And if you have been listening to something good lately, let me know too!

4. My small group started a marriage study this fall and at our last meeting me were talking about how selfishness creeps into our marriages so easily. I know I am very guilty of that. I began thinking of this idea of making my home a refuge for my husband and kids…and for anyone who walks through our door, really. I came across these two blog posts by Designs by Lulu and Julieย at Joy’s Hope. They fit right in with what the Lord is impressing on my heart to work on. You should definitely read them too.

If youโ€™ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if youย careโ€” then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Donโ€™t push your way to the front; donโ€™t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Donโ€™t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. Philippians 2:1-4

5. Don’t forget to enter the Lucius Art giveaway. Giveaway ends tonight. Click here to enter.

I never thought I would be a Kansas girl, but it turns out that a Kansas girl is what I am. And honestly, I love Kansas. (There are lots of things I don’t love about it…like bugs, really hot summers, crazy wind…but we will just focus on the good things…there are lots of good things too!) Now I have three Kansas babies. When I was thinking about what I wanted to hang on the walls in Griffin’s room, I knew I wanted one of the City State Heart Prints from Lucius Art. Griffin needed a little Kansas love in his room.

I fully intended on having this little wall done in Griffin’s room before this post, but as you can see it is not. I was a little busy this week lovin’ on my new nephew (Yes…he’s here and he’s awesome!! Pictures to come soon.) Anyway, I just decided to show you an “in progress” picture. That is real life around my house. Always “in progress”. If you have been reading my blog for long you know that I am not good at getting projects done in a timely manner. ๐Ÿ™‚

The two left prints are from Sarah + Abraham. The picture with Griffin’s name is his birth announcement.

And here is the City State Heart Print with our little Kansas town.

I love how it turned out. Now if only I could find time to finish filling the rest of the frames!

Kevin atย Lucius Art is generously giving away one Customized City State Heart Wood Block Art Print to one of my readers.
