This was the first Thanksgiving that we have had a house full of guests. I loved it. Most of our family lives nearby so we usually don’t have people staying with us over the holidays. But this year my friend Laura came with her boys to spend Thanksgiving with us. Her husband was supposed to come too but he got sick the day they were supposed to leave and ended up staying home. Such a bummer. πŸ™ But Joel had to work most of the weekend anyway, so the little boys played and Laura kept me company. It was so fun. Here is a peek into some of the weekend happenings:

It was a weekend full of time with faraway friends, playdough, coloring, tractors everywhere, feeding the cows, little boys wrestling, a full and noisy house (so great!), baking, lots of eating, Thanksgiving day with my family, making “snow”, cousins, an airport party to welcome Katee home (so happy!), and lots of fun. I am so grateful.

Today we tried to get back into our normal routine. It was a struggle! I think we were all missing our Colorado friends.

So much to be thankful for!

I love this time of the year where the Savior is in the forefront to remind us of how much we have to be grateful for the rest of the year. You are an amazing woman Jess. • Trisha Larson - Before Nate died, I heard Jana Alayra speak at my MOPS about losing her daughter in a car crash. She couldn’t explain it except to compare it to the man who wrote the hymn “it is well with my soul” after a ship sank killing his wife and kids many, many years ago. I didn’t understand it at the time and must admit that there are days that I still don’t but I’m learning to accept that Nate’s death on earth and now life is Heaven is “well with my soul”.

  • Mary - Oh how I would LOVE to have that very same necklace! It is all beautiful, but that necklace would mean so very much to me. What a beautiful reminder of how we should look at things.

We lost two children to miscarriage and that is exactly what I learned to feel about it! I still have my moments when I get upset, but I think the Lord forgives me for that. Eventhough it may not seem like it at times, I am very grateful for EVERYTHING the Lord does in my life. Even the stuff I don’t like!

I wrote a little about this after we lost our first baby. It isn’t beautifully written like your posts are, but if anyone would like to read it you can go here http://blessednotcrazy.blogspot.com/2010/11/how-im-feeling-today.html

Your family is beautiful and you are so wise. I learn so much from you each time I visit. Your beautiful Cora has been in my heart for quite some time now and she always will be. God bless you and your beautiful family!

Random is about the only way my brain seems to be working these days. So random is what you get today. Random thoughts and random pictures. πŸ™‚

*Levi and I made homemade play dough last week. I’ve only made it one other time but it is so easy. We used this recipe that I got from my friend, Julie.

*We made pumpkin play dough with orange food coloring and pumpkin pie spice and peppermint play dough with peppermint extract and sparkles.

*Levi is such a cheese-ball. He is constantly cracking me up with the funny things he says. He is so much like his daddy.

*Did you see that these Melissa & Doug Shape, Model & Mold Sets are on sale today only on Amazon? Our play dough toys are from Lakeshore but these look fun too!

*There are a few other Melissa & Doug toys on sale today only too…like the Alphabet Stamp Set (only$10) and the Wooden Blocks (only $35…such a good deal!). The blocks are the same ones Levi and Griffin have. We love them!

*Levi loved packing up our Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes this year. He is such a cheerful giver. He loves to shop for and give gifts. I love that. I’m praying this is a character quality that the Lord continues to grow in him.

*Griffin has not been happy lately unless he is doing exactly what we are doing. Like sitting at the big table. He is a stubborn and ornery little guy!

*Griffin loves driving trucks and tractors all over our house. He is much more into it then Levi was when he was his age. Now they just follow each other all over the house, driving away. Unless they are crying because they can’t share…that happens a lot too. That is one of my prayers every morning…”Lord, please show me how to teach my boys to share…and be kind to each other.” I have a feeling I will be praying that for awhile.

*Griffin is finally getting brave and trying to stand on his own. He is not interested in walking on his own at all though…which is funny to me because he wants to do everything else we are doing.

*The weather here has been amazing. We have had warm days with no wind…IN NOVEMBER…IN KANSAS. It has been awesome and we are soaking up the sunshine in our jammies and hats. πŸ™‚

*We are spending Thanksgiving with my family here in town this year. And we even get to have some of them stay at our house. I am looking forward to having a house full. So fun! What are you doing for Thanksgiving?

*I don’t know how much I will be blogging this week, but make sure you check in Friday if you have time because I have a fun giveaway for you. It involves Lisa Leonard and DaySpring {hint, hint}!

I told you it was random! πŸ™‚

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I really wish we were neighbors… I’m a farmer’s wife too and I also have two boys ( a 2 1/2 yr old and one almost 6 months). Playing outside in PJs definitely happens around here too. I am dreading these holidays without Jonathan here with me – but I plan to do something special tomorrow morning in his honor. I’m so glad you will have family visiting – it’s a good excuse to clean the house, lol!!!! I will be with my husband’s family of 30 tomorrow and plan to eat some unhealthy food – and give thanks for what God has given me.

  • Jody R. - Happy Thanksgiving! We are having a great week of weather here in Ohio, too. I’ve always wanted to have Thanksgiving outside and, if it was up to me, we would be this year. We are walking across the street to my mom’s house and several aunts & uncles & cousins are coming, too. I guess us ladies are spending the afternoon scrapbooking (: Saturday everyone will be at my house to cheer on the Ohio State Buckeyes as they take on that team from up north.ReplyCancel

  • Kate Townsend - Talk about RANDOM… I must have checked in with your blog right before I went to bed and you were literally on my mind all night. I had the most vivid dream – all night – about my husband and I visiting YOU and Joel at your house! Anyway, as expected, you were a wonderful hostess, and your house is as beautiful as I imagined! …and my husband enjoyed playing basketball with Joel on your indoor basketball court…. HA! How’s that for random!ReplyCancel

  • Elizabeth Cannata - I wanted to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. You and I both have so many blessings and God has been so good to us. We have both been through challenges we never hoped to have to go through, but God was there to hold our hand and hearts to get us through another day. I pray that you will have more fun that you have had in a long time. I know precious Cora will be watching you from heaven loving you all and giving you little signs that she is still with you. In addition, thank for the chance to win something! I am not very lucky, however, I will keep entering and maybe my luck will change! You never know what God has in store for me!! Thanks again for being so raw and honest with your emotions. I appreciate the perspective of anther momma, somewhere in Kansas, that loves her boys as much as I adore my two boys (ages 7 and 11).ReplyCancel

I got an email from the sweet Heather of Life Made Lovely last month asking if I would be interested in partnering with Katy of Katygirl Designs to design a Christmas card that would benefit the Joyful Life Library. Ummmm….YES! It has been so fun getting to know Katy a little through doing this project together. She is super sweet, has a huge heart, and is also crazy talented. Everything she makes is pretty. I am really bad at narrowing down what I like and making decisions. I emailed her all these ideas that I had swirling around in my head (that I’m pretty sure made no sense at all) and she came up with this amazing card:

I love everything about this card. When I first saw it I honestly wondered if I should hide this design and keep it just for myself.Β  But I decided that would be selfish. πŸ™‚Β  Instead, Katy and I want to share it with you! You can purchase this card here. It is super affordable and the best part is a portion of the proceeds go to benefit the Joyful Life Library. That makes me love this card even more.

This beautiful card was designed by Katy with Lindsay of PenandPaint. I love it too. A portion of the proceeds from this card go to benefit Hope4Sudan, another great cause!

I am so excited because my Christmas card is done! That has never happened this early before. I can’t wait to show it to you. And yours can be done too. Katy is generously giving away a premade Christmas card design of your choice to one of my readers. There are so many cute ones to choose from.

And…along with your Christmas card you also get to choose one of her awesome prints. These are two of my favorites. I love what they say. I may need to be ordering these two for my home soon. πŸ™‚

Here is how you can enter to win…

GIVEAWAY DETAILS:

ONE premade Christmas card design of your choice & ONE art print of your choice

ONE winner chosen at random

ONE entry per person

Giveaway ends Monday, November 19 at 9pm (CST)

To enter, visit Katy’s shop then come back and tell me…are your Christmas cards done? You can tell me about something that you love in Katy’s shop if you want too. πŸ™‚

Katy is also offering 10% off in her shop by using the code JESS10. Katy makes custom Christmas cards as well, so if you don’t see something you love you should think about having your own card designed. She is so easy and fun to work with and I promise you will love your card when she is done. Don’t forget to check out Katy’s blog too!

  • Karen - All of her cards are beautiful. I have a 13 year old boy who hates having his picture taken. Getting a family picture is almost impossible! But I will keep trying until I do!ReplyCancel

  • Angie - My Christmas cards were supposed to be done weeks ago but the photographer went AWOL and despite many tries, I haven’t gotten the pictures. No pictures means no cards and I lost a Groupon I purchased as a result. Ugh.

My favorite card is Merry Little Christmas! Her designs are a perfect way to remember what this season is all about, inspite of lost pictures πŸ™‚ReplyCancel

  • Aimee Mohr - Well I usually NEVER EVER do Christmas cards before Thanksgiving but this year I really want to just enjoy the holiday season with my family and not get all caught up in the hustle and bustle….SO I too did mine early this year! However, I am so in love with a lot of these amazing signs that this site has! I especially love the one that says “Fix your eyes on what lies ahead of you”! By the way….I am loving your Christmas cards you got…I love how your Levi is laughing in the picture!!ReplyCancel
